The software used to guide the Apollo 11 moon mission was written by Margaret Hamilton and her team at MIT in the 1960's. The code is public domain and you can view it on github including this program for the lunar module: BURN_BABY_BURN--MASTER_IGNITION_ROUTINE.agc . Here's a link to the repo:

The source code on github was transcribed from MIT Museum hardcopy images. The source code content also contains historical notations which are excellent to read. This LEM program includes an interesting story of the astronauts opinions on the interface: ../Luminary099/PINBALL_GAME_BUTTONS_AND_LIGHTS.agc

ReplyDeleteThe moon is 249,000 miles from earth. If something went wrong, there was no rescue. The AGC (Apollo Guidance Computer) had a separate counterpart for the lunar landing; the AGS (Abort Guidance System). The AGS was for exactly what its name implies. It's all explained at this excellent resource: http://www.ibiblio.org/apollo/
